Grant Writing & Development Volunteer
Fueling the mission through words
Help sustain and grow Antara’s mission by researching opportunities, drafting Letters of Inquiry (LOIs),
writing proposals, assembling budgets, and tracking outcomes. You’ll collaborate with the Executive Director
and program leads to translate our services (end-of-life support, caregiver coaching, community healing, accessibility)
into clear, funder-aligned narratives. Training provided in ethical fundraising, inclusive language, and
compliance-friendly documentation.
Overview
As a Grant Writing & Development Volunteer, you will support the full grants cycle, from prospecting to submission
and light reporting. You’ll use accessible, equity-centered language to show how Antara serves low-income, BIPOC,
LGBTQ+, disabled, immigrant, unhoused, justice-involved, and veteran communities across Arizona.
Core Responsibilities
- Research private, corporate, and public grant opportunities aligned with Antara programs and geography.
- Draft LOIs, narratives, outcomes/objectives, evaluation plans, and logic models with staff input.
- Assemble attachments (budgets, org charts, board lists, non-discrimination policy, community care standards, IRS docs).
- Coordinate internal reviews, collect letters of support/partnership MOUs, and ensure deadline compliance.
- Record submissions, awards/declines, and reporting dates in Antara’s tracking sheet or CRM.
- Support stewardship: donor thank-you drafts, impact blurbs, and short grant update summaries.
Training & Tools Provided
- Orientation to Antara programs, equity commitments, and inclusive language style guide.
- Templates: LOI, narrative sections, budget & justification, outcomes matrix, workplans, and cover letters.
- Grants calendar, prospecting worksheet, and submission checklist.
- Ethical fundraising & compliance overview (no percentage-based compensation; privacy & data practices).
Time Commitment
- 3–6 hours per week on average (flexible, remote-friendly).
- Minimum preferred term: 3 months (so you can see a full cycle through).
Qualifications
- Strong writing, editing, and organization skills; comfort with spreadsheets and deadlines.
- Interest in health equity, end-of-life care, disability access, and community healing.
- Ability to interpret funder guidelines and tailor language accordingly.
- Ideal for: Writers, administrators, students of nonprofit management/philanthropy, and detail-lovers.
Nice-to-have: familiar with budgets, outcomes/evaluation basics, or grant portals. Lived experience in our focus communities is valued.

- No percentage-based compensation. Antara follows ethical fundraising norms and IRS guidance.
- Protect privacy and sensitive data; follow Antara’s file-naming and storage protocols.
- All submissions must reflect Antara’s non-discrimination and accessibility commitments.
- When applicable, adhere to specific funder requirements (attachments, word counts, reporting).
Screening & Onboarding
- Volunteer application and conversation with development lead/ED.
- Reference check (role-dependent).
- Access to templates, brand/style guide, and grants calendar.
- Shadow an existing submission or co-author a short LOI to start.
